The term CTF stands for Capture The Flag. It is a type of challenge where you have to find a way get the flag. A flag is generally a text string but it can be in another formats as well. There are a tons of categories in which this challenge can be. It is generally created by simulating previously known weaknesses.
CTF helps you to understand different types of weaknesses, how to find thoes weaknesses, differnet tactics, techniques. Overall CTFs are in one of the best practicle ways to understand security weaknesses.
